The last of the renowned Peppercorn ‘A1’ steam locomotives was scrapped in 1966, but a brand new ‘A1’, No. 60163 Tornado, has been brought to life.

On the 14th, 15th and 16th of February 2017, Tornado is pulling a series of 12 Northern Rail services on the famed Settle to Carlisle line. It is part of celebrations to mark the upcoming reopening of the line after landslides closed a long stretch.

The line takes in the Yorkshire Dales and passes over Ribblehead viaduct before entering Cumbria's Eden Valley. The Tornado is the first mainline steam engine to be built in the UK since the 1960s.

These images were taken on the 14th February as Tornado passes over the Ribblehead Viaduct and shows some of the 'paparazzi' that turned out to record the event.
