About me
The story so far...
The early years...
After leaving Blackpool College of Art and Design John worked as an assistant to one of London's top food photographers, a fashion photographer and a PR photographer, eventually becoming a 'photographer' himself for a leading London based mail-order studio.
After several years gaining experience John then went on to establish and run the photographic studio for the John Blackburn Design Partnership in London's West End. During the 70's and 80's 'Blackburns' was recognised as one of the leading design groups in the UK.
This was a fantastic opportunity working with many 'blue chip' clients, leading graphic designers and art directors.
Moving on...
Eventually after a move back to the North West and a spell at Manchester's Carlton Studios, John and his business partner set up the very successful Photosphere Studios in Manchester City Centre.
Having 5000 square feet of space led to some very exciting projects materialising including production of an internationally best selling art poster. A collaborative project involving scenic artists, model makers, set builders and a live wolf! See a time lapse showing the construction of the set in the sidebar.
During this time John specialised in food photography for advertising and packaging. After leaving Photosphere Studios several years ago John decided to pursue Landscape and Fine Art projects, passing on his knowledge and experience by becoming involved in various workshop and lecturing roles and he has now retired.
