The changing moods of Arnside

Tranquil and quiet, unspoilt Arnside is a treasure. Lying on the river Kent Estuary after flowing through Kendal and just as it enters Morecambe Bay. An atmospheric place that can change its moods from windy to perfectly still with amazing sunsets.

With views across the bay to Grange over Sands, the Lake District hills looming behind the remarkable railway viaduct crossing the river Kent. Upstream behind the viaduct lie beautiful Milnthorpe Sands, popular with fishermen and estuary birds.

Approximately every month, Arnside battens down the hatches and prepares itself for a tidal wave – the Arnside Bore.
