Knott End
A few miles from Blackpool...
A road to nowhere, impassable salt-marshes and tidal sands make Knott End somewhat isolated but unique. You can just see the tower if you position yourself carefully. Fleetwood is opposite over the river Wyre estuary. The little ferry boat, stolen a few years ago but safely returned, chugs back and forth weather and tides permitting. LS Lowry frequented here and painted ferry boats and of course the people.
A developing series of images looking at river estuaries and how reclamation, development and a shift from heavy commerce to tourism and leisure activities is affecting these unique and major geographic features.
